Application of Steel Pipes in Ocean Engineering

The application of steel pipes in marine engineering can be roughly classified into three types:

1. Applied in the functional system, there are conventional and special ones in the functional system.
There are many conventional equipment systems. Mainly include: bilge water, ballast, drainage, domestic sewage, air, measurement, injection, domestic water, fire protection, cargo oil, tank stripping, ventilation, inert gas, heating, cabin cleaning, foam fire extinguishing, water sprinkling, vaporization , liquid level telemetry, valve remote control and other systems.
Special equipment systems are necessary for special purpose "ships" and "ocean engineering". Such as special systems for ships transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Special drilling and production equipment, crude oil processing/liquefied petroleum gas/liquefied natural gas processing (process) systems, special mooring systems, flare systems, etc. for "offshore engineering".

2. Application in structure, mainly marine engineering
Such as: jacket, drilling rig, underwater steel column, waterproof casing, mooring bracket, module bracket, helicopter platform, flare tower, etc.
Features: Many specifications, high material, relatively complex, with the same diameter, different diameter, different wall thickness, and a large number of Y, K, T-shaped pipe joints. Such as jackets, steel piles, wellhead water barriers, etc.



3. Special purpose application

Steel pipes for special purposes - drilling risers and subsea oil pipelines.
(1) Riser aspect
Usually the length of a single riser ranges from 15.24 to 22.86m. At present, there are 24.38m, 27.43m, 30.48m, and even 36.58m in deep water. When choosing the length, the storage and loading and unloading characteristics are mainly considered.
The main material of deep sea drilling riser is pipeline steel that meets API standards, mainly API 5L X80, and is developing to higher strength grades such as X100 and X120. In addition, high-performance titanium alloys and aluminum alloys are gradually being used in deep-sea drilling risers, and well meet the requirements for use, including strength and service life.
The production methods of deep sea drilling riser mainly include seamless pipe and straight seam submerged arc welded steel pipe (LSAW pipe). Among them, the application of straight seam submerged arc welded steel pipe is the most extensive.
(2) Direction of submarine pipeline:
The inlet pressure of the pipeline exceeds 20Mpa (up to 13 Mpa on land)
Pipeline materials range from X60, X70, and X80, and some will use X100, very high-strength steel, and X120 ultra-high-strength steel.
Features: Long anti-corrosion life, high-density weighted layer, low-cost development.
