U-shaped steel sheet pile and Z-shaped steel sheet pile

Steel sheet pile are steel profiles with interlocking edges. They are driven into the ground to provide excavation support. These sheet piles are used to support walls, clear land, create underground structures, and river bank or coastal protection.

Z-shaped steel sheet pile and U-shaped steel sheet pile
Of all sheet piles, Z-shaped sheet piles are most similar to U-shaped sheet piles.
1. Type Z is used in deep wall construction to provide more durable building support and a stronger foundation. Z-type sheet piles are the most efficient sheet piles. Therefore, they are most commonly used in cantilevered and strapped systems. The Z-shape sheet pile has an extra protruding piece of steel which helps to increase its flexural strength.
2. On the other hand, U-shaped sheet piles are very similar in application to Z-shaped sheet piles. The only difference is their interlock mechanism. U-shaped sheet piles are interlocked between adjacent sheet piles. It is located on the edge of each cell.
3. Compared with U-shaped sheet piles, Z-shaped sheet piles have better bending resistance.
4. Both Z-type and U-type sheet piles are mainly used to strengthen dams and river banks. They are strong enough to help reinforce structures that must withstand constant pressure from one or both sides. They can also be used to create containment barriers for tighter, more specific protection.
5. Z-type sheet piles are used more than U-type sheet piles. Z-type sheet piles have a greater modulus, which makes them a better choice for steel pipe piles and intermediate piles for HZ composite walls. Z-shaped sheet piles can also be used to form webs due to the specific position of the interlocks symmetrically on either side of their neutral axis.
6. U-shaped steel sheet piles can be used in temporary retaining walls, cut-off walls, embankments and bank revetments!

Advantages of U-shaped steel sheet piles

1. Various specifications and models of U-shaped steel sheet piles.
2. Designed and produced according to the European standard, the structure is symmetrical, which is conducive to repeated use, and is equivalent to hot rolling in terms of repeated use.
3. The length can be specially customized according to customer requirements, which brings great convenience to the construction and reduces the cost at the same time.
4. Due to the convenient production, it can be pre-ordered before leaving the factory when it is used together with the combined pile.
5. The production design and production cycle is short, and the performance of steel sheet piles can be determined according to customer requirements.

Advantages of Z-type steel sheet piles
1. Flexible design, relatively high section modulus and mass ratio;
2. Higher moment of inertia, which increases the stiffness of the sheet pile wall and reduces displacement deformation;
3. The width is large, which effectively saves the time for hoisting and piling;
4. The increased section width reduces the number of shrinkages of the sheet pile wall and directly improves its water-tight performance;
5. The thickening treatment is carried out on the severely corroded parts, and the corrosion resistance is more excellent.
