Cast iron pipe vs carbon steel pipe

The main difference between cast iron pipes and steel pipes is that they have different uses, different characteristics, and different classifications.

1. Different uses

Cast iron pipes are suitable for domestic drainage pipes, rainwater pipes, industrial waste water pipes and raindrop pipes in newly-built, expanded and rebuilt civil and industrial buildings and clamp-type connections.

The carbon steel pipe is used to transport fluid and powder solids, exchange heat energy, and manufacture mechanical parts and containers. It is a kind of economical steel. The use of steel pipes to manufacture space trusses, columns and mechanical supports for building structures can reduce weight, save 20-40% of metal, and realize industrialized and mechanized construction.

2. Different characteristics

Cast iron pipe has the advantages of safe and reliable operation, low damage rate, convenient construction and maintenance, and excellent anti-corrosion performance.

The carbon steel pipehas the advantages of simple production process, high production efficiency, many varieties and specifications, and less investment in equipment. Compared with solid steel such as round steel, steel pipe is an economical steel with the same bending and torsional strength.

3. Different categories

Cast iron pipes can be divided into three categories: straight pipes, fittings and accessories. From the interface form, it can be divided into W-type flexible cast iron drain pipe, B-type flexible cast iron drain pipe and A-type flexible cast iron drain pipe. From the material point of view: nodular cast iron drain pipe, gray cast iron drain pipe.

According to the production method, carbon steel pipe can be divided into seamless pipes and welded steel tubes. According to the pipe material (ie steel grade), it can be divided into carbon pipe, alloy pipe, stainless steel pipe, etc. According to the pipe end connection method, it can be divided into light pipe (unthreaded pipe end) and threaded pipe (threaded pipe end). Steel pipes can be divided into black pipes (not coated) and coated pipes according to the surface coating characteristics. Steel pipes can be divided into round steel pipes and special-shaped steel pipes according to the cross-sectional shape.
