Precautions for Welding Carbon Steel Plates

Among many metal materials, the weldability of carbon steel plates is relatively excellent. The welding parameters range are wide. In the commonly used thickness range (0.5-3.0mm), there is generally no special measures. One-way power frequency AC power supply is used, and a simple welding cycle can achieve satisfactory welding effect. So what spot welding machine can weld high-quality product workpieces for low-carbon steel welding? What are the precautions for welding carbon steel plates? Let me briefly introduce the relevant knowledge of carbon steel plate welding.

Characteristics of carbon steel plate

1. Adjustable mechanical properties: carbon content determines strength and toughness - Low carbon steel has good plasticity, medium carbon steel has moderate strength, and high carbon steel has outstanding hardness. It can accurately optimize performance through heat treatment (quenching, tempering).
2. The processability advantages are significant: low-carbon steel plates have excellent weldability and are easy to stamp and bending during cold forming; medium and high-carbon steels need to be adjusted in process to avoid welding cracks, and the machining property changes with the increase in carbon content.
3. High cost performance: The raw materials and production process are simple, the price is lower than alloy steel, and the economy is outstanding in scenarios such as construction and machinery where performance requirements are moderate.
4. Corrosion resistance short-board: easy to rust with air and moisture, and need to be strengthened by surface treatment such as galvanizing and painting. In special environments, it needs to be used with anti-corrosion technology.



Notes on welding carbon steel plates:

1. Because the welding performance of carbon steel plates is good, the plate parts are not thick and the welding requirements are not too high, an AC spot welding machine can be used to achieve the welding requirements.
2. If the equipment cost allows, try to use an intermediate frequency inverter spot welding machine to spot weld low-carbon steel plates, which will have better welding effect and the core and welding joints will be more perfect.
3. Carbon steel plates include cold-rolled steel plates and hot-rolled steel plates. There is no need to be specially cleaned before welding. Hot-rolled steel plates must be removed from the surface of oxide layers, rust, oil stains and other impurities.
4. If the capacity of the spot welder used allows, Sunar still recommends using hard standard welding to reduce the impact of heat diffusion on the product, and at the same time reduce product deformation.
5. For the electrode head material, we recommend using medium conductivity and medium strength electrode materials, such as Cr-Cu or Cr-Zr-Cu alloy electrodes.
6. When the surface cleaning quality is poor, the stamping accuracy is poor and the stiffness is high, the amplitude modulation current measures can be considered to solve the splash problem.
