Expanded Steel Plate: Specification, Types and Applications

Expanded steel plate is a variety in the metal screen industry. It is a porous metal mesh formed by one-time punching and stretching of a large precision expanded steel mesh punching and shearing machine. The mesh is uniform and flat, and it has anti-slip, wear-resistant and high-strength tensile properties.

1. Specifications of expanded steel plate

Short Pitch (SWM): The length of the short rhombus diagonal from node center to node center.
Long Pitch (LWM): The length of the long rhombus diagonal from node center to node center.
Short Pitch (Bore) (SWD): Short diagonal length of a diamond-shaped hole.
Long Pitch (Bore) (LWD): The diagonal length of a long, diamond-shaped hole.
Strand: The side of the diamond-shaped hole in the expanded steel mesh (as shown in the picture). The width of the strand is the length of the metal plate used to make a wire strand.
Node (Bond): The connection between two silk stems.
Thickness: The thickness of the original steel plate.
Roll: A steel mesh wound into a roll indicating a specific length and width.
Mesh: Expanded steel mesh indicating the specific length and width.

2. Surface treatment of expanded steel mesh

The surface treatment of expanded steel plate includes PVC dipping (plastic spraying, plastic coating), hot-dip galvanizing, electro-galvanizing, anodizing (aluminum plate), anti-rust paint spraying, etc.

Galvanized steel plate is a steel mesh product made of galvanized steel sheets that are stamped and stretched. The surface of ordinary low carbon steel sheets is coated with a layer of metallic zinc to prevent corrosion on the surface of the steel sheets and prolong its life. Service life, the steel plate is called galvanized plate or galvanized steel plate.

3. Anti-rust methods of flattened expanded metal

(1) Add some rare elements and other ingredients to ordinary steel to change the internal structure of the metal.
(2) Cover the metal surface with a protective layer to isolate the surrounding corrosive media, thereby preventing the anti-corrosion effect. For example: coating the surface of the steel plate with engine oil, petroleum jelly, paint or covering it with enamel, PVC and other corrosion-resistant non-metallic materials; using electroplating, hot plating, spray plating and other methods to coat the surface of the steel plate with a layer of zinc, chromium, nickel, etc. ; Use chemical methods to form a fine and stable oxide film on the steel surface. For example, a fine black ferrous oxide film is formed on the surface of machine parts, guns and other steel plate parts.
(3) Wipe metal equipment frequently or place desiccant in precision instruments and add a small amount of corrosion inhibitor to the corrosive medium that can slow down the corrosion rate.

4. Types of expanded steel sheet

(1) Classification by material: carbon steel sheets, aluminum plates, stainless steel plates, aluminum-magnesium alloy plates and other plates.

(2) Classification by use: widely used in highways, railways, civil buildings, water conservancy and other construction, various machinery, electrical appliances, window protection and aquaculture, etc. Products with various special specifications can be processed and customized according to customer requirements.

(3) Classification by hole type: fish-scale hole steel and aluminum expanded metal mesh, hexagonal hole steel and aluminum expanded metal mesh, fancy steel and aluminum expanded metal mesh and tortoise-shell steel and aluminum expanded metal mesh.

5. Applications of expanded steel mesh

The expanded steel mesh series has strong holes, long service life, and a wide range of uses. It is mainly used for cement batching in civil construction, protection of mechanical equipment, handicraft manufacturing, and high-end speaker mesh covers. Highway guardrails, sports venue fences, road green belt protection nets. Heavy-duty expanded steel mesh can be used for foot mesh of oil tankers, working platforms, escalators and walkways of heavy machinery and boilers, oil mines, locomotives, 10,000-ton ships, etc. It can also be used as steel bars in the construction industry, highways and bridges.
